Marrakech is already a city full of surprises. Turn down one alleyway and you’ll find a craftsman working at his bench. Follow another and the air fills with the scent of spices, freshly baked bread and leather.

A city made for curious little hands
There’s plenty more to Marrakech than its winding streets.
One morning, your family might climb into a collection of vintage sidecars and head out towards the palm groves of the Palmeraie. The wind is in your hair, the city unfolds around you and there’s time for an ice cream on the way home.
Another afternoon, you’ll meet a local potter.

Leave the bustle of Marrakech behind and watch the city give way to wide-open landscapes, rocky plains and the Atlas Mountains rising in the distance.
Your first stop? Lunch at La Pause, a peaceful retreat tucked into the Agafay landscape. From here, the adventure continues on camelback, with the family setting off across the rocky terrain before settling into neighbouring desert lodges at Caravan by Habitas.
As the sun dips behind the hills, the landscape turns golden and the evening begins to feel rather magical. There’s time to enjoy the stillness, look up at a sky full of stars and settle in for a night in the desert.
And tomorrow? The mountains are calling.
Follow the mountain paths to lunch
Head towards Imlil, where your local mountain guide is ready to show you a little of life in the Atlas foothills.
The family sets off along winding paths between villages, with terraced hillsides, mountain views and plenty to discover along the way. Little legs might appreciate a donkey trek, while older children can take on a longer hike. Your guide knows the trails and will choose a route that suits everyone.
Eventually, the path leads to a mountain lodge, where a freshly cooked tagine makes a very welcome lunch. Settle in, enjoy the views and hear a little about life in the surrounding villages before making your way back.

As children grow older, the possibilities for a family trip to Morocco grow with them.

Make some noise in Fes
Fes is one of Morocco’s great historic cities, and its medina is filled with working artisans whose skills have been passed down through generations.
Here, Epic can arrange a private drum-making workshop.
You’ll meet a specialist craftsman and choose an unfinished earthenware drum before visiting a leather workshop to select the hide. With guidance from your artisan, you’ll learn how the materials are prepared and secured to create the instrument’s sound.
Once the drums are finished, a local drummer joins the family for a lively drumming circle. Before long, everyone is playing together, building rhythms and creating their own little Moroccan music festival. It’s a brilliant introduction to Moroccan music, and everyone leaves with an instrument they’ve made themselves.
Later, the family might have dinner in a private courtyard house, where a local Moroccan family prepares a generous Moroccan meal. It’s an opportunity to enjoy the country’s food in a more personal setting, with plenty of time around the table.
Blue streets, ancient ruins and mountain trails
From Fes, the journey continues up north.
At Volubilis, a private guide brings the ancient Roman city to life as you explore its ruins and intricate mosaics. The route then passes through the hilltop town of Moulay Idriss before reaching Chefchaouen.
Tucked into the Rif Mountains, the famous Blue City is a wonderful place to explore on foot. Its painted streets wind between little shops, cafés and workshops, with the mountains rising above the town. And for teens, there’s no shortage of picture-perfect corners to capture and share with friends back home.
The following morning, head into the countryside around Akchour.
Here, the family can follow trails through the mountains towards waterfalls and the natural rock formation known as God’s Bridge. After lunch in a mountain auberge, the road descends towards the Mediterranean.
By evening, you could be checking into the spectacular Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay , a luxurious beachfront retreat perched on the Mediterranean. Think beautiful suites and villas, lush gardens and turquoise waters just steps away. After a day exploring the mountains, it’s time to swap hiking boots for bare feet and settle into life by the sea.
A different side of Moroccan life
Northern Morocco has a character all of its own, where Spanish and Moroccan influences mingle in the architecture, food and music. It’s a fascinating place to meet local people, discover different traditions and experience a side of the country that you just haven’t seen before.
In Tetouan, follow your local guide through the UNESCO-listed medina, stopping at hidden workshops where metalworkers, carpenters and tailors keep centuries-old crafts alive.
Lunch takes place in a private riad, followed by a cooking experience with a local chef. Learn to prepare a traditional pastry before enjoying an intimate performance by Andalusian musicians.
The adventure continues into the mountains, with breakfast in a traditional village before a gentle hike past springs, farmland and grazing animals.
The following day, take on Jebel Moussa, where the reward is spectacular views across the Strait of Gibraltar towards Europe, followed by a mountain picnic.

The Atlantic is calling
From Tangier, Epic’s northern journey continues towards Larache, with a stop in the coastal town of Asilah along the way.
The final days are spent at La Fiermontina Ocean, a remarkable retreat surrounded by nature on Morocco’s Atlantic coast. Here, the family can enjoy a slower rhythm after the cities and mountains. Spend time on the beach, explore the surrounding villages or head out for horse riding and paddleboarding.
