Days 1-3: Marrakech, a colourful taste of Morocco

Your adventure in Morocco begins in the heart of Marrakech, a buzzing city with a vibrant energy, rich history, and a curious blend of tradition and modern charm. A private driver will be waiting to whisk your family away to your riad – an elegant, traditional Moroccan home-turned-boutique-hotel.  These spaces look like nothing from the outside, but open the heavy wooden door and inside an oasis awaits with intricate tilework, lush courtyards, and warm hospitality that will set the tone for your stay.

After settling in, it’s time to explore. Your first full day immerses you in the magic of the medina (old town) with a local guide leading you through the labyrinthine alleyways of the old city. You’ll dive in head first and enjoy the intoxicating sights, sounds and smells of one of the most vibrant cities in the world. Take in its endless alleyways, artisan workshops and colourful souks before dinner.

The next day, dive into Morocco’s culinary heritage with a hands-on cooking experience. Spend your morning in the food souks buying Moroccan cuisine staples before heading to your cooking class with a local chef. Learn about the delicate balance of spices used and the secret behind the perfect tajine. Once done, you’ll enjoy the lunch you made together. Towards sunset, head to Jemaa el Fnaa, a massive square that transforms after dark with storytellers, snake charmers and sizzling street food stalls. It’s a feast for all the senses!

On your final morning, rise before dawn for a breathtaking hot air balloon ride. As the sun paints the sky in soft hues, you’ll drift above with views of the Haouz Plains and the High Atlas Mountains. Back on land, a traditional Moroccan breakfast awaits before you return to Marrakech for a leisurely afternoon to savour the city.

Days 4-7: High Atlas Mountains, vintage sidecars and trekking

Ride in style towards the High Atlas Mountains. This morning you’ll leave Marrakech on a unique journey. Jump into a vintage sidecar and feel the wind in your hair as your local driver and guide take you on a thrilling ride into the hills. You’ll take a few detours en route. Zip lining between mountain valleys, anyone? Once at your final destination – the tranquil mountain village of Imlil – kick back and soak up the amazing views over a glass of mint tea.

You’ll spend the following day discovering the valley of Imlil with your guide. It’s a chance to acclimatize to the mountain air. You’ll discover the rustic region and the Berber mountain way of life when you stop for lunch in a local family house. There’s no better way to connect with local traditions and the way of life than having your family meet another.

Then, it’s time for the big hike from valley to valley. Wave goodbye to Imlil and get ready for two days on foot, adventuring through passes, peaks and valleys. With your guide and mule, make your way on foot through spectacular views, lofty villages and juniper forests towards Ouirgane. Along the way you’ll stop at basic mountain lodges and spend cosy evenings beneath the stars.

Did you know that every Epic trip includes a 24/7 concierge service? It’s not an emergency number – it’s a personal contact of a person dedicated to making your stay easier and more pleasant.

Days 8-9: Agafay Desert, night in a desert camp

Swapping lush valleys for a vast, stone desert when you depart the Atlas Mountain today. Soon enough you’ll arrive at your luxury tented camp set in the Agafay Desert. Watch as the rocky expanse changes colour as sunset approaches, shifting from warm beige to deep gold hue. It’s the perfect time for a quad bike or camel riding adventure across the landscape.

When your family returns to the campsite, a traditional Moroccan feast will be waiting. After, gather around the crackling campfire, where the stillness of the desert might be broken by local musicians. Either way, it’s a magic experience to sit with the Milky Way stretching above, surrounded by the quiet magic of the Agafay.

Day 10: Marrakech, a final farewell

After a magical night in the desert, it’s time to head back to Marrakech for one final adventure on this 10-day Morocco family itinerary. It’s just a short, 45-minute drive from Agafay back to Marrakech.

Back in the city, make the most of your last few hours. Treat yourself to a rejuvenating traditional hammam, something that is both wonderfully relaxing and a cultural experience. The warm steam bath is ideal after days hiking and will leave you feeling refreshed for your journey home.

Or, dive back into the busy souks for a final shopping spree. By now you’ll be a professional at bartering and in Marrakech you can hunt for treasures like handwoven rugs, fragrant spices, or the perfect Moroccan lantern to bring a piece of your adventure home.

How we choose accommodation

We believe in skipping the big chain hotels in favour of unique, character-filled stays that showcase style and charm. That might mean a charming traditional riad (converted townhouse) in an old medina, a boutique hotel that combines traditional Moroccan style with contemporary design, or a luxury five-star retreat with top-tier amenities and service. Whatever your taste and budget, Epic offers a curated selection of accommodations to match the perfect getaway for families in Morocco.
