From souk to sand: 10-Day luxury Northern Morocco itinerary
Ideal for: The curious traveler who craves authenticity, luxury, and untold stories.
The North of Morocco has become the jewel in Morocco’s crown. Far away from the buzz and energy of thriving Marrakech, it’s a quieter area steeped in history and conquests that lies at the crossroads of civilisations and cultures. In recent years, cities such as Tangier have been the focus of government investment, which you can see in the redeveloped harbour and clean white streets framed by date palms and oleander.
This 10-day journey across northern Morocco is about more than the places you visit. It’s about mornings unwinding with storytelling and mint tea, afternoons spent exploring ancient cities, enjoying active adventure on the coast or in the stunning Rif mountains, followed by evenings wrapped in the quiet luxury of handpicked high-end hideaways.

Chase mountain views where two seas meet, dive into authentic moments hiking hidden trails and cooking with a local family, and unwind with a drink and gentle Mediterranean breezes. You’ll explore Tangier, relax at Tamuda Bay, visit Chefchouen and Tetouan, get lost in ancient Fes, stand at the Atlantic Coast, and end in the capital, Rabat, and coastal Larache.
This exclusive Morocco trip is a carefully crafted adventure that blends stays at some of Morocco’s most charming, high-end and beautifully designed properties with expert insider tours and opportunities for exploration and adventure. Let’s dive in.

Days 1-2: Kick off in Tangier

Tangier is the gateway between Europe and Africa, a melting pot of cultures and architecture where just 14km (8.5 miles) separates the two continents. In the 1960s and ‘70s this northern Moroccan city grew notorious as a laidback, liberal hangout for artists and writers.
Matisse, Paul Bowles and William Burroughs all called the streets of Tangier home at some point. While it’s lost some of its gritty, artistic edge, Tangier is still an atmospheric destination.
Once settled in the lush surroundings of YSL’s former private villa, Villa Mabrouka, you’ll set off for a half-day exploration of Tangier’s kasbah and medina. Sip coffee at the vintage Rif Cinema, visit local markets, hear stories of Hercules, Samuel Pepys, the Beat Generation and the Rolling Stones, and take a private visit to Umberto Pasti’s house.
Optional: Epic can organise a narrated tour by Richard Hamilton, author of the book about Tangier ‘From the Romans to the Rolling Stones’ and a private lunch or dinner with the author as guest.
The next day, after a lush breakfast at a private pagoda at the villa, you’ll visit the American Legation, a beautiful building and the first US diplomatic property in the world. You’ll explore a museum dedicated to Paul Bowles, and a gallery that houses paintings by major 20th-century artists. Round out the day with antique shopping and relaxation, then enjoy cocktails and stories at the El Morocco club.

En route, stop by the ancient Spanish-influenced medina of Tetouan – here you could visit a modern art museum. Stop to feast on locally caught lobster and prawns before leaving the coast. After lunch, switch to a 4×4 for a thrilling ride through the cedar forests of Akchour National Park.
When you reach the ‘blue city’, wander through the winding alleys of the medina to discover the bustling markets filled with Riffian handicrafts. Explore the kasbah, built in the 18th century, and the Great Mosque. Take a stroll to the old Jewish quarter, and visit the Ras El Ma spring. It’s such a beautiful destination, so let us organise a photographer or videographer to capture these moments, or just relax in the main square and enjoy a cup of coffee at one of the local cafes.

This medieval gem, set between the Middle Atlas and Rif Mountains, is known as the spiritual and intellectual heart of Morocco, and it’s home to the world’s oldest university, the University of Al-Karaouine.
On the journey to Fes, your private driver will detour to the ancient Roman site of Volubilis, stopping by the private ‘Scorpion House’ for lunch with panoramic views of Moulay Idriss.

On Day 7 you’ll immerse yourself in the charms of Fes. If you’re a foodie, explore with a private walking tour and tasting trail, and cook with a local Fassi family at their home. Or seek culture and explore some of the most important and awe-inspiring architectural landmarks in the Islamic world, such as the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and University, with its zellij tilework and serene central courtyard.
If you want to have a go, you can create your own Islamic tiles with a specialist expert in Fes, or simply watch the artisans at work to learn more and shop for styles you like.
