    Mountain Retreats

Morocco is as much about mountains and it is about desert. It is home to multiple ranges of mountains, and our background as adventurers means that we always encourage guests to spend at least a night in one of the array of interesting mountain auberges and hotels. Our emphasis is, as usual, on character and overall experience, but there are options that also boast a range of facilities and a good level of comfort and luxury.

    Luxury Mountain Hideaway

Although the range of places to stay in the Atlas Mountains leans more to the simple end of the scale, there a few places that provide luxury experiences. One such place, owned by a British tycoon of a certain notoriety, offers nearly 30 guest rooms including a collection of luxury Berber tents that offer sweeping views of the surrounding Atlas Mountains. There are other excellent options in other valleys so please contact us to discuss your requirements and we will pair you up with the right stay for you.

As Marrakech becomes more and more of a competitive environment for hotel owners given the incredible array of possibilities, some have turned their attention to the mountain environment, and a contemporary twist on local village style using traditional building techniques and materials has started to emerge. Thick mud brick and rammed earth walls are practical – warm in winter and cool in summer – but also incredibly stylish when complemented by colourful local textiles and quality furnishings.

The Atlas has a good range of convivial and cosy mountain lodges that focus on a friendly and accommodating experience. Around the villages of Imlil and Ouirgane there are a number of options, and a few good possibilities in the Central High Atlas region. Expect to be well looked after, eat great home cooked food, and have access to stunning mountain terrain. What some places lack in facilities and standard of luxury are well compensated by friendliness and overall experience.
